About Forest Stewardship Council
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international organization that brings together citizens, businesses, governments, and non-governmental organizations to protect healthy, resilient forests and the people who depend on them. Its work is guided by forest certification standards, policies, and procedures designed to support responsible forest management and sustainable sourcing.
FSC offers certification and licensing services for forest managers, businesses, and projects, alongside Chain of Custody certification to help verify responsible sourcing through supply chains. Its labels—FSC 100%, FSC Recycled, and FSC MIX—help consumers identify products connected to FSC’s requirements. The organization also provides promotional licences and resources for using FSC trademarks.
To support transparency and compliance, FSC offers tools such as Certificate Search, FSC Trace for supply-chain verification, and the FSC Risk Hub for assessing forestry sourcing risks. Its innovation work includes satellite-based forest monitoring and technology to trace wood origins. FSC also works with Indigenous Peoples, supports small and community forest managers, and shares educational resources, research, and guidance on forests, biodiversity, climate, and responsible purchasing.
