About Financial Services Commission of Jamaica
The Financial Services Commission (FSC) of Jamaica is a regulatory body established in 2001 to oversee the regulation of the insurance, pension, and securities industries in Jamaica. With wide-ranging powers, the FSC supervises, investigates, and sanctions entities falling under its jurisdiction. Its primary focus is on prudential supervision, ensuring solvency, internal controls, risk management, and corporate governance within regulated institutions.
The FSC manages 792 superannuation funds and 14 retirement schemes, with active funds and schemes having a membership of around 95,311. It administers various statutes and regulations, including the FSC Act, Securities Act, Pension Act, Unit Trusts Act, and Insurance Act. To fulfill its mandate, the FSC is structured with specialized divisions such as Insurance, Securities, Pensions, Investigations & Enforcement, Legal Services, Actuarial, Registration, Compliance, and Internal Control and Corporate Services.
