Functional Adaptive Movement

Functional Adaptive Movement™ Ltd (FAM™) is a New Zealand-based program dedicated to strength and conditioning for people of all ages and abilities who live with disabilities. Its purpose is to help participants improve and maintain fitness, everyday function, and independence in a fun, supportive environment. FAM offers group exercise classes and one-on-one personal training, with sessions adapted to participants’ needs and abilities. Programs aim to build physical skills such as balance, coordination, strength, endurance, flexibility, and concentration, while also supporting confidence, communication, capability, and life skills.

FAM operates across towns and venues in New Zealand and combines fitness with a strong focus on safety, personal growth, and community connection. Participants are supported by enthusiastic coaches who hold Adaptive Training Academy certification, police clearance, and first aid training. The wider FAM community includes caregivers, support workers, health and disability organisations, trainee students, volunteers, universities, and allied health institutions. Through its classes and partnerships, FAM seeks to foster belonging, expand social connections, and empower people with disabilities to pursue greater independence.
