Fundação A LORD is a nonprofit foundation based in Lordelo, created to direct resources toward the needs of its community. Its origins date to around 1993, when the leadership of the A LORD Electrification Cooperative proposed an institution focused on putting the cooperative’s surplus to useful social purpose. Guided by a commitment to people and local wellbeing, the foundation works independently and in cooperation with other organizations in education, science, the arts and social support.
Its areas of activity bring together a range of cultural, educational and community services. These include an auditorium, library, museum and cooperation initiatives, as well as an arts school and vocational training. The foundation also organizes events and shares information about its activities, including performances and opportunities to enrol in music and dance classes. Through these programs and facilities, Fundação A LORD supports access to learning and culture while contributing to social solidarity in the community it serves.
