Fundação FSNS

Fundação FSNS is a Portuguese foundation dedicated to promoting knowledge, public participation and discussion about the Serviço Nacional de Saúde (SNS), Portugal’s National Health Service. It presents the SNS as a vital democratic institution and aims to encourage people to contribute to its effective operation, development and modernisation. Its work brings together information, debate and public engagement around the health service and its future.

The foundation organises projects and conferences, including the “Estados Gerais” initiative, “Transformar o SNS” and events held in cities across Portugal. It also supports idea laboratories, publishes reports and provides information through the Observatório SNS and its “SNS em Foco” reports. Other activities include the “Contar uma estória” project, the “Serviço Médico de Periferia” and a health-literacy competition. Its website shares foundation documents, publications, press articles, statements, opinion pieces, newsletters and event materials. Through these resources and initiatives, Fundação FSNS seeks to strengthen public understanding of the SNS and support informed discussion about protecting and improving this shared public service.
