About Fundación Humedales
Fundación Humedales is a Colombian NGO founded in 2000 in Bogotá with the aim of contributing to the conservation and management of aquatic ecosystems through a comprehensive human and environmental approach. They develop conservation projects, participatory management of natural resources, environmental education programs, improvement of productive practices, and strengthening of community associations. They also focus on strategies for gender inclusion and the inclusion of minority groups in scientific research.
Their roots are in the Fúquene Lagoon basin, a complex of high Andean wetlands that are regionally important but vulnerable to climate change and human activities. They have expanded their projects to different regions in Colombia, including the Caribbean, the Amazon, the Andean region, and the Magdalena-Cauca basin, with a focus on sustainable management and the protection of natural resources. Fundación Humedales was founded by Hendrick Hoeck and has received invaluable contributions from Patricia Escallón de Valderrama.
