Fundacja im Anny Bornus

The Anna Bornus Foundation is a Polish charitable organisation dedicated to helping students with disabilities pursue higher education. Established in 2017, it grew from a scholarship initiative launched by Anna Bornus’s family in the academic year 2013–2014, a year after her death. Anna studied at the University of Warsaw and, despite living with cancer, inspired those close to her through her determination to develop and follow her interests. Her experience highlighted the practical support students with significant mobility disabilities may need.

The Foundation raises funds to provide scholarships that can cover the cost of a personal assistant. This individualised support can help students travel to university, obtain learning materials and manage other everyday academic responsibilities, making it easier to participate in their studies. Initially focused on students at the University of Warsaw, the programme expanded in 2020 to include other institutions, including the Warsaw School of Economics. Supporters can contribute through donations or by allocating 1.5% of their tax to the Foundation.
