About Fundefir
Fundefir is a social enterprise dedicated to promoting economic and social development in communities and their residents. They achieve this by implementing financial training programs that provide advisory tools for the development of skills in family, business, associative, and community finance. For over 22 years, Fundefir has been offering applied and self-sustainable financial education in 23 countries.
Their goal is to improve the well-being of families by enhancing traditional informal associative mechanisms widely utilized by low-income populations and creating an alternative and complementary path to banking. Fundefir's vision is to be an organization that promotes new ideas and strategies to bring about change in finance-related matters for the majority. They have an innovative approach to financial inclusion and education, not only through their channels and content, but also by adopting a sustainable perspective.
Fundefir emphasizes concepts such as the fundamental financial need for families to save, the importance of understanding and valuing traditional approaches to accessing savings and credit services, the need to move beyond education and inclusion towards financial well-being, and the significance of influencing the quality of family spending to reduce vulnerability. With their mission to promote education, inclusion, and financial well-being, Fundefir improves upon traditional informal associative mechanisms widely used by low-income populations, which they refer to as BK Groups or Bankomunales in other countries. They also create alternative spaces to facilitate the redirection of family expenses and access to goods and services, which they call Poverty Cushions.
It's important to note that BK Groups are not supervised by the Colombian Financial Superintendence. To learn more about Fundefir or get in touch with them, you can visit their office in Bogota, Colombia, contact them through their provided email, or check out their Facebook and Twitter pages
