About Fundesur Honduras
Fundesur Honduras is a brand dedicated to improving the quality of life in rural communities along the southern coast of Honduras. They are committed to addressing the healthcare and educational needs of these communities, as well as promoting environmental conservation and sustainable practices. In the field of healthcare, Fundesur provides medical and dental care through their program Salud para vivir, which includes 10 doctors distributed across 10 health centers.
They offer general medical consultations, minor surgeries, prenatal care, and specialized treatments. Additionally, their program Construyendo Sonrisas provides dental care such as cleanings, extractions, and restorations. In terms of education, Fundesur focuses on improving school infrastructure.
They have constructed 44 classrooms and donated over 2,100 desks to schools in need. They also provide school kits to children in underserved communities, equipping them with the necessary tools to enhance their learning experience. Fundesur also places significant emphasis on environmental conservation.
They promote the use of eco-friendly stoves called ecofogones, which emit less CO2, save firewood, and reduce indoor smoke. They work on the recovery of the mangrove ecosystem, having planted over 1. 2 million red mangrove propagules.
They also contribute to the preservation of the endangered Golfina turtle by strengthening nesting season regulations and have released more than 247,900 turtles to date. In collaboration with Ferretería Herco and Cemento Argos Honduras, Fundesur has developed a program for the responsible management of waste tires. They collect used tires and utilize a technique called coprocessing in cement production to avoid mosquito breeding grounds and hazardous waste.
With these efforts, Fundesur Honduras is making a positive impact on the health, education, and environment of the southern coastal regions of Honduras.
