About FunGlass
FunGlass is a newly created center of excellence specializing in functional and surface functionalized glass. Established in 2018 as part of the Horizon 2020 project, FunGlass aims to become an internationally recognized research institution in the field of glass-based functional materials. Located at the Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín in Slovakia, FunGlass collaborates with leading experts in glass science and technology from renowned European institutions.
The center focuses on various research areas, such as the development and characterization of new types of functional glasses, the replacement of rare earth elements with transition metals in glass-based phosphors, and the vitrification and immobilization of radioactive waste. FunGlass also offers industry cooperation services, providing valuable support to local and regional glass manufacturers. Through training and applied research, FunGlass aims to nurture skilled research personnel and establish partnerships with regional and EU glass industries.
