GAARI, or Grupo de Apoio aos Animais de Rua, is a nonprofit animal welfare organization in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. For more than 16 years, it has worked to protect animals and support the communities that care for them. Its services include free spay and neuter procedures and veterinary care, delivered through mobile units. Beginning with a bus serving Itaquá, GAARI has expanded its activities to municipalities across the state and now operates buses and what it describes as Brazil’s first spay-and-neuter trailer. The organization reports having completed more than 180,000 free sterilizations.

GAARI also encourages community participation in animal welfare. People can adopt an animal, provide temporary foster care for rescued pets, volunteer at adoption fairs, or donate supplies such as food, blankets, newspaper, and bottle caps. Financial contributions are welcomed as well. The organization publishes annual activity reports, general accounts, and financial statements to support public transparency.
