Founded in 2014 by the Eye Bank Association of America, European Eye Bank Association, Association of Eye Banks of Asia, Eye Bank Association of Australia and New Zealand, and Eye Bank Association of India, GAEBA works in collaboration with professionals from regions without eye bank associations to achieve common goals and values.

As a member of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness and the International Council of Ophthalmology, GAEBA plays a crucial role in supporting industry recommendations, best practices, and initiatives such as the WHO's Initiative for Medical Products of Human Origin and the Declaration of Istanbul on Organ Trafficking and Transplant tourism.

GAEBA's mission is to promote eye banking worldwide.
