Graduate Applications International Network (GAIN) is a comprehensive program designed to support students from low-income countries in their journey to graduate school. Our program consists of three phases: webinars, mentoring, and alumni support. During our webinar series, participants gain valuable insights into the entire graduate application process.

Led by leading African scholars, the webinars cover a range of topics including scholarships and funding opportunities, test-taking strategies, university selection, and balancing family responsibilities with studies. Participants also complete practical assignments related to the application process, such as compiling scholarship lists and drafting application essays. Successful completion of the webinars allows participants to move into the mentoring phase, where they are matched with a suitable mentor.

Mentors provide guidance on choosing programs of study, preparing application materials, and test preparation. Our mentors are experienced professionals in various fields who are dedicated to promoting diversity and representation in the research community. For those selected for the mentoring phase, GAIN offers financial support to cover application fees, standardized tests, and transcript submissions.

This support aims to remove financial barriers to higher education. Once admitted to a graduate school, mentees can join the GAIN Alumni Network and receive ongoing support through check-in calls and targeted webinars. We are committed to increasing the study success and graduation rate of our participants.
