The Georgia Invasive Species Council (GISC) is a statewide initiative focused on the effects and management of invasive species across Georgia. Formerly known as the Georgia Exotic Pest Plant Council, it expanded its scope to encompass all taxa, including invasive plants, vertebrates, and invertebrates. The Council works to raise awareness of how invasive species threaten native plants and wildlife, contribute to habitat loss, and create socioeconomic impacts. It also highlights how the seriousness of invasive species can change over time and the importance of sharing information so landowners and managers can set management priorities.
GISC provides resources for people seeking information and practical guidance. Its website includes an invasive species list, distribution and infestation reports, suggested native alternatives to nonnative invasive plants, educational presentations, publications, and training materials. Visitors can also find information about the Council’s board, history, bylaws, workshops, and meetings, as well as related task forces and partner resources.
