About Galveston Naval Museum
Galveston Naval Museum, formerly known as The American Undersea Warfare Center, is a renowned institution dedicated to preserving the rich history of naval warfare. Established in 1971, the museum is home to iconic warfighting vessels such as the USS Cavalla (SS-244) and USS Stewart (DE-238), which stand as a tribute to the brave submariners of World War II. The Cavalla Historical Foundation, which has been overseeing the museum since 1999, ensures the restoration, maintenance, and operation of not only the USS Cavalla and USS Stewart but also the sail of the USS Tautog (SSN-639) and the conning tower of the USS Carp (SS-338).
