The Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) Sanitation and Water Project (GAMA-SWP) is a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing environmental sanitation and water supply in Accra, Ghana. Supported by a significant World Bank grant of $150 million, this project targets low-income communities to ensure equitable access to improved sanitation and water services.

GAMA-SWP encompasses four key components: provision of essential sanitation and water services, improvement and expansion of the existing water distribution network, planning for GAMA-wide sanitation improvements, and institutional strengthening for municipal and national bodies. The initiative also focuses on capacity building to address sanitation management effectively.

Additionally, GAMA-SWP fosters community engagement and inclusivity, as seen in its workshops and training programs aimed at preventing gender-based violence and promoting environmental sustainability. This project represents a pivotal effort by the Ghanaian government to not only provide essential services but also improve the overall quality of life for its residents.
