About The Garden Conservancy
The Garden Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1989 to preserve, share, and celebrate America’s gardens and diverse gardening traditions for public education and inspiration. It works with garden owners, gardeners, communities, horticulturists, designers, and historians to protect outstanding gardens across the country. Its preservation work includes support for historic rehabilitation and easements, advocacy, and assistance to emerging public gardens as they develop into community resources. The organization also helps established public gardens address natural and human-made challenges to their survival.
To connect people with gardens and their stories, the Garden Conservancy organizes and cosponsors lectures, symposia, webinars, and other educational programs, often in partnership with public gardens and like-minded organizations. Its Open Days program offers visits to hundreds of private gardens nationwide. The Conservancy also produces documentary films exploring the connections between gardens, communities, cultural identity, and shared memory. Members can find opportunities to explore and learn, while donations, grants, planned giving, and sponsorships help support its work.
