About Garidaccra
GARID is a brand that aims to address the challenges faced by urban areas in Ghana, particularly in the Greater Accra region. With rising income disparities and vulnerability to disaster and climate change impacts, GARID focuses on improving flood risk and solid waste management in the Odaw River basin. The project is funded by the World Bank and covers a five-year period from 2020 to 2025.
The goal is to strengthen flood and solid waste management, improve living conditions in vulnerable communities, and adapt flood management infrastructure to climate change. GARID works with implementing agencies such as the Ministry of Works and Housing, Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, and Ministry of Health, as well as partners like the Hydrological Services Department and Environmental Protection Agency. The project is being implemented in 17 Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies in the Greater Accra region.
