Garrykennedy Sailing

Garrykennedy Sailing Club is a community of cruiser and small keelboat sailors based on the Tipperary shore of Lough Derg, near Garrykennedy village. Founded in 1985, the club brings together boat owners, crew, families and friends who enjoy relaxed, sociable sailing alongside competitive racing. Its fleet races on a handicap basis, with closely contested finishes and individual match-ups among boats. The club has around 50 members and welcomes sailors of all ages and experience levels; newcomers can join as crew, and previous sailing experience is not required.

Rather than maintaining a clubhouse, members gather for regular race briefings in Garrykennedy, weekly racing and occasional social events ashore and afloat. The club provides information for prospective members, membership applications, racing rules and sailing instructions, and a race calendar. Most boat owners are glad to meet potential crew, and skippers may be able to lend a lifejacket to those getting started. Garrykennedy Sailing Club offers an accessible way to take part in Lough Derg sailing, learn through experience and enjoy a friendly, active sailing community.
