Gartenbahn-Werkstatt

Gartenbahn-Werkstatt is a specialist magazine focused on functional railway model building, especially large-scale models that can be operated and experienced firsthand. Its articles aim to inspire readers’ own construction projects, covering workshop techniques, railway vehicles, garden railway layouts, and the operation of passenger-carrying miniature railways. The magazine explores scales from 1:16 to 1:3.3 and gauges including 3½, 5, and 7¼ inches, with subjects ranging from live-steam locomotives to electric and combustion-engine models, as well as passenger and freight cars.

Readers can browse an archive of magazine issues and purchase individual copies, annual collections, books, construction plans, and technical drawings through the site’s shop. The available drawings by Horst-Dieter Hettler are produced at 1:45 scale and include locomotives, passenger cars, and freight cars; other print scales can be requested. The site also features books on railway history, including a publication about the Ostholstein seaside railway. Overall, Gartenbahn-Werkstatt serves enthusiasts seeking practical knowledge, design resources, and inspiration for building and running large-scale railway models.
