G.A.TO. – Grupo de Ajuda a Toxicodependentes is a nonprofit social solidarity institution founded in 1990 and based in Faro, Portugal. Its work spans prevention, treatment and social reintegration, supporting people affected by legal or illegal drug use, children and young people at risk, and other disadvantaged groups. The organisation serves people across Portugal and is committed to promoting gender equality and building a more inclusive society through humane, collaborative and community-based support.

G.A.TO.’s services include the Azinheiro Therapeutic Community, a long-term residential treatment programme for adults of both sexes, and direct intervention teams that provide street outreach, consultations, crisis support, guidance and referrals for people experiencing addiction and their families. Its primary prevention work delivers information and training to young people, parents, teachers, youth workers and the wider community. For people completing treatment, G.A.TO. offers social reintegration support, including reintegration apartments in Faro and Torre d’Aires. It also supports beneficiaries of Portugal’s Social Integration Income programme, helping them build autonomy and reconnect with their communities.
