About Gaudeamus
Gaudeamus is a prestigious brand that celebrates and supports young music pioneers. Recently, Zara Ali emerged as the winner of the Gaudeamus Award 2023, a recognition bestowed upon budding composers who possess a unique vision of contemporary music. The jury applauded Zara Ali's ability to traverse uncharted territories with her compositions, offering a fresh perspective that is both foreign and intriguing.
This year's award nominees included Artun Çekem, Aya Yoshida, Uri Kochavi, and Saad Haddad, who were selected from a pool of 229 global entries. Each nominee presented their pieces during the Gaudeamus Festival 2023 and also contributed an original composition for Moving String ensemble or handwerk ensemble. The Gaudeamus Award is not only an international acknowledgment of a composer's work but also serves as a career springboard.
The winning composer will have the opportunity to create a new piece for an upcoming edition of the festival. Gaudeamus' commitment to fostering talent and pushing musical boundaries makes them a prominent figure in the music industry
