The Grupo de Capoeira Angola Cabula (GCAC) is an international group dedicated to teaching and developing capoeira angola, a traditional Afro-Brazilian practice combining dance, martial movement, music, and song. Founded in Salvador, Brazil, in 1984 by Mestre Barba Branca, the group is currently coordinated by Mestre Saúva. Its Lyon branch began in 2003, following a meeting between Mestre Barba Branca and local young people who chose to study his teachings and promote capoeira angola in the city.
GCAC presents capoeira as both a physical discipline and a culture of resistance, rooted in struggles against slavery, oppression, and stigmatization. The practice is open to people of all ages and backgrounds. In Lyon, the group offers classes and rodas, the gatherings where participants play capoeira together. A free trial class is available throughout the year, and classes are scheduled to resume on September 21, 2026. The organization also shares information about its activities and history and provides contact channels for prospective participants.
