GDTFestival

Göteborgs Dance and Theatre Festival is an established Swedish festival dedicated to international performing arts. Produced by Stora Teatern and part of Göteborgs Stadsteater AB, it brings artists and audiences together in Gothenburg and western Sweden for performances from around the world. The festival’s programme spans dance, theatre, circus and performance, with events staged in theatres as well as public squares and streets. Alongside performances, it offers seminars, discussions and workshops, creating opportunities for audiences to explore the ideas and creative practices behind the work.

The 2018 edition ran for ten days, from 17 to 26 August, and presented a varied programme ranging from spectacular productions to intimate encounters. Audiences could experience film-like acrobatics, raw and poetic circus, energetic dance and quieter stories about resistance, survival and belonging. Across playful and existential work, the festival highlighted distinctive artistic voices and unexpected meetings. Its programme reflected contemporary life and aimed to provoke thought and feeling, offering experiences that remained with audiences after the performances ended.
