Gorakhpur Environmental Action Group (GEAG) is a well-established organization that has been working since 1975 to address various sustainability issues. Starting from humble beginnings in a university laboratory, GEAG has grown into a dedicated group focusing on sustainable agriculture, livelihood models, climate change adaptation, gender equity, and the rights of small farmers. Influenced by movements like Chipko and events like the Stockholm Conference, GEAG was born out of a desire to preserve the local environment and conserve natural resources.

Over the years, GEAG has actively participated in awareness campaigns, supported environmental movements, and expanded its reach to become a leading organization in northern India.
