Geboorte Support provides maternity care and doula support for expectant parents and families in Amsterdam and surrounding areas, including parts of Noord-Holland and Utrecht. Founded by Astrid Laanen, an experienced maternity nurse and DONA-certified doula, the service supports families through birth and the first days at home with a newborn. Astrid has a medical background, worked as a paramedic in California, and has assisted more than 450 mothers and babies since 2018. Fluent in English after living in the United States for 18 years, she is particularly familiar with the challenges faced by international families navigating Dutch maternity care.
Maternity care can include support during a home birth, daily care for mother and baby after birth, feeding guidance, health checks, light household tasks, and help the family settle into life with a new child. Astrid also offers incubator aftercare. As a doula, she provides emotional, physical, and informational support during labour, without performing medical procedures. Additional services include pregnancy and baby massage.
