Geburt 3000 is a Swiss initiative working to transform maternity care by developing midwife-led birth pavilions and new models for birth outside traditional hospital wards. Its approach responds to growing interest in midwife-led care while addressing the long-standing stagnation of out-of-hospital births in Switzerland. The initiative aims to expand choice for women and families through close, non-competitive partnerships with nearby hospitals, combining continuity and personal support with access to acute medical care when needed.

Geburt 3000 brings together three areas of work: individualized care for birthing women and their families; evidence-informed education and professional development for midwives; and research that evaluates health outcomes in future birth pavilions. It also incorporates salutogenic principles and healing architecture, seeking environments that support physical and emotional wellbeing. The organization draws on expertise in midwife-led birth, research, healthcare and architecture. Its planned pavilion in Uster reflects this model. Through collaboration with hospitals and other partners, Geburt 3000 aims to strengthen autonomous midwifery care and foster a respectful, evidence-based and people-centered maternity system.
