Geburtswohnung

Geburtswohnung Kuckucksnest e.V. is a nonprofit association in Germany dedicated to supporting women and parents in pursuing a self-determined birth. Founded by parents, it promotes respectful, informed and positive birth experiences through practical services, peer support and education. Its birth apartment in Stegen offers a calm, home-like place to give birth for families whose own homes are not suitable for a home birth. Parents arrange their own home-birth midwife and can stay at the apartment for as long as they wish; it can also serve as a space for the postpartum period.

The association’s Nabelschnurtelefon provides a listening ear, shares parents’ experiences, offers guidance on birth options and doula support, and maintains a waiting list for home-birth midwives to help connect families when availability arises. Kuckucksnest also organizes seminars, talks and information events on pregnancy, birth, bonding and parenting, both online and around Freiburg. Its activities include women’s circles, storytelling cafés and a birth pool rental service for home water births.
