GedMatch.info is a free genealogy website focused primarily on surnames and family history in Central Europe, especially the former Austro-Hungarian region. It is independent of GEDmatch, Inc., the U.S. company associated with DNA-based ancestry research, and does not offer DNA matching.

Registered users can upload family trees in GEDCOM format for comparison with trees in the site’s database. When potential matches are found, both users are notified and can confirm or reject the suggestions, or contact one another to exchange information. Users can also explore surname pages showing where and when names appear in submitted family trees, with map views available when location coordinates have been provided. A “surnames sought” section helps people signal which names they are researching and connect with others who may share their interests.

The site emphasizes privacy: information about living people is not visible to other users without explicit consent, which is requested for each match. GedMatch.info is designed to help researchers find connections and historical surname occurrences, rather than create or edit family trees.
