GEHFA (Groupe d’étude – Histoire de la formation des adultes) is a French nonprofit association dedicated to the history and memory of adult education and training. Its work began in April 1997 with a public seminar examining pioneering adult-training institutions since 1945 and the emergence of a French model. The seminar continues with five to six sessions each year.
Established as an association under France’s 1901 law in 1999, GEHFA supports the identification, preservation and use of historical archives, and encourages research and the sharing of scholarship. Archive preservation is a priority, and the association helps connect individuals and institutions wishing to deposit records with organizations equipped to preserve and make them accessible. It also builds an oral history record through in-depth interviews with pioneers.
For researchers and other interested readers, GEHFA provides an online bibliography and documentary updates, and publishes the Hisfora bulletin. Its activities include seminars, public events and support for teaching and training related to the field.
