About Global Emergency Medical Registry
The Global Emergency Medical Registry (GEMR) is an organization that provides international certification and endorsement for medical professionals working in prehospital and hospital environments. Established to help standardize competencies for specialized medical activities across countries, GEMR oversees registration, assessment, and renewal requirements. Its certifications align with ISO 17024 principles, supporting objective, valid, reliable, and impartial competency assessment.
GEMR offers credentials for Emergency Medical Technicians, Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics, Advanced Practice Paramedics, Medical Assistants, and Resuscitation Officers. It also provides endorsements in point-of-care ultrasound and Emergency First Aid. Applicants must complete initial didactic and practical skills assessments before registration; renewal requires continuing medical education and documented skills activity.
The registry supports candidates and providers with examination and certification information, registration and recertification services, and a searchable system for verifying certification status. Its online reference library includes sample ambulance equipment lists, EMS regulations, protocols, treatment guidelines, and policy documents. GEMR’s medical and quality assurance functions are overseen by an international committee of physicians, EMS providers, government representatives, and auditors.
