Michael Peuster Gemstone Carving Studio is the workshop of master carver and artist Michael Peuster, based in Kirschweiler, Germany, near Idar-Oberstein on the German Gemstone Route. A double master craftsman with more than 35 years of experience, Peuster creates handmade works that bring traditional gemstone engraving into conversation with contemporary ideas. His practice begins with a dialogue between artist and stone, combining established and innovative carving techniques.

The studio’s work includes cameos and intaglios, relief portraits and images carved in agate and other gemstones, as well as animal, human and fantastical figures made from materials such as rock crystal, tourmaline and opal. Peuster also produces sculptures, from gemstone figures to larger works, and one-of-a-kind objets d’art that unite carved stones with precious metals and other fine materials. The portfolio features both classic subjects and imaginative designs. Bespoke commissions are welcome, and visitors can contact the studio to discuss proposals or arrange an appointment. The studio is open by appointment only.
