GENCODE is a premier project dedicated to the comprehensive annotation and classification of gene features within the human and mouse genomes. Established to enhance biomedical research, GENCODE provides high-accuracy data based on rigorous biological evidence. The project recently announced the release of GENCODE 46 for humans and GENCODE M35 for mice in May 2024, reflecting its commitment to staying at the forefront of genomic research.
In response to current global health issues, GENCODE is actively updating annotations related to human protein-coding genes associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19. GENCODE also supports the annotation of non-canonical human open reading frames (ORFs) predicted by Ribo-seq data. Their ongoing efforts include a wealth of publications, workshops, and detailed documentation aimed at advancing genome interpretation and research accessibility.
