General Synod is the triennial gathering of the United Church of Christ, a denomination comprised of 33 conferences. It brings together delegates and faithful members from across the country for worship, fellowship, public witness, and church business. The gathering also provides a forum for considering resolutions and addressing matters that arise between regular summer sessions.
General Synod 35 began in July 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri, under the theme “Into the Deep,” inspired by Luke 5:4, and continues through July 2028. In May 2026, a special meeting elected Rev. Jennifer Sowell as Associate General Minister, Love of Church, with 87 percent of the vote.
The site shares news, recordings, historical information, and highlights from Synod gatherings, along with resources about Rev. Sowell and the denomination. It also offers a store and information about resolutions and upcoming events.
General Synod 36 is scheduled for July 21–25, 2028, in Cleveland, Ohio, marking the city’s fifth time hosting the gathering and the first meeting in the new triennial system
