GEOBIOMET is the Biometeorology Group at the University of Cantabria, bringing together research and educational activities focused on relationships between weather, climate, place and human health. Its work draws on health geography and biometeorology to examine how environmental conditions may influence disease and wellbeing, including the effects of heat waves, abrupt weather changes and climate variability. The group also explores how geographic information systems can support public health research, disease surveillance and the analysis of spatial patterns.
GEOBIOMET shares its work through research projects, scientific publications, educational activities, courses, conferences and student projects. It develops and provides access to biometeorological forecasting resources, including PRONBIOMET services for Spain and Europe, as well as DIBREAKIB and OxyAlert. Its online resources also include VisorMap. Through these research, forecasting and training activities, the group contributes knowledge and tools that can help inform the study and prevention of health impacts associated with atmospheric and environmental conditions.
