The Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) is Germany’s national authority for cartography, geospatial data and geodesy. Based in Frankfurt am Main, with additional locations and observatories, it provides specialist information, data and services for public administration and other users. Its service offering includes a consultation centre for standard products and services, a data centre for accessing geospatial information, and satellite imagery and customized map services. The BKG’s Remote Sensing Service Centre supplies satellite imagery and derived products for Germany’s federal administration, while its satellite-based crisis and situation service supports access to relevant information for situational awareness.

The agency also provides services and resources in geodesy and space, including satellite positioning, gravity and GNSS data, sea-level monitoring, and national reference systems for location, height and gravity. Its work spans geospatial data infrastructure, mapping, satellite navigation, remote sensing and the European Copernicus programme. Through its specialist departments, research activities, training and workshops, the BKG supports the use and development of reliable geospatial information and geodetic services.
