GeoNature is an open-source biodiversity information system developed by France’s national parks and a wider community of biodiversity organisations, users and developers. Its tools help organisations manage wildlife and plant data across the full information lifecycle, from reference data and field observations to analysis and public sharing. The freely licensed applications can be installed individually or deployed together: GeoNature supports web-based data entry, consultation and export; Occtax-mobile enables field recording; GeoNature-atlas presents observations to the public; and GeoNature-citizen supports open, citizen-led data collection.
TaxHub manages taxonomy using Taxref, while UsersHub handles accounts, observers, groups and access rights. The system also supports multiple observation protocols, metadata management, partner data integration, exports in partner-required formats and the synthesis of records. Demonstrations, documentation, source code and community discussion channels are available to users.
GeoNature is coordinated with support from the Information Systems team at Écrins National Park, and is designed to help biodiversity organisations manage and share their data through a connected suite of web and mobile tools
