About Geopark
UNESCO Global Geoparks are designated areas that highlight the significance of geological heritage in conjunction with the region's natural and cultural assets. Focused on raising awareness of critical societal issues, these geoparks encourage sustainable use of earth’s resources, mitigate climate change impacts, and reduce risks associated with natural hazards. With a holistic approach that combines conservation and development, UNESCO Global Geoparks actively engage local communities in preserving their unique geological features while fostering educational opportunities.
Currently, there are 229 UNESCO Global Geoparks across 50 countries, each showcasing their local geological sites and landscapes of international importance. Through various programs and activities, these parks promote the understanding of Earth sciences, cultural heritage, and environmental sustainability. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich narratives of both geology and local culture, making UNESCO Global Geoparks vital centers for education and conservation
