UNESCO Global Geopark Bohemian Paradise is a 833-square-kilometre area in the Czech Republic, managed by the nonprofit Geopark Český ráj o.p.s. Recognised for its exceptional geological, natural and landscape heritage, it joined the European Geoparks Network in 2005 and became the Czech Republic’s first member of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network in 2015. The region’s varied landscapes reflect hundreds of millions of years of geological change, including ancient seas, lakes and volcanic activity. Visitors can discover sandstone formations, volcanoes, caves, rivers, valleys, forests, meadows and ponds, alongside historical sites and cultural traditions.
The organisation works to conserve the area’s natural and historical heritage, support scientific research, educate the public and encourage sustainable tourism in partnership with local communities. Its visitor and learning resources include geological maps and site information, suggested trips, an audio guide, information centres, educational trails and museums. The geopark also offers lectures, guided excursions, seminars and educational programmes for learners of different ages, and shares research opportunities and information about geological phenomena.
