GeoRoteiros is an educational project created in 2009 by students of the Geology course at the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS). Its mission is to share knowledge about the geological evolution of Earth and the state of Rio Grande do Sul in accessible language, helping people understand the forces that shape the planet and why geological heritage and the environment should be preserved.
The project’s website organizes geological itineraries into regional routes, including the Central Depression, the Sul-Rio-Grandense Shield, the Coastal Plain and the Southern Plateau. Along these routes, visitors can explore geosites selected for their scientific and tourism interest. Each geosite entry provides location information, geological context and guidance on features that make the site important to preserve. Featured destinations include Santa Maria, Minas do Camaquã, Porto Alegre, Torres and Salto do Yucumã.
GeoRoteiros also shares activities that promote geoscience, such as presentations, fossil workshops and events related to geoparks and geoheritage.
