The German Windsurfing Association (GWA) is the non-commercial class association representing shortboard windsurfing in Germany. It brings together athletes in the International Funboard Class Association and IFCA Youth Class, covering Fin Slalom, Foiling, Wave and Freestyle. The GWA maintains official national rankings for these disciplines and administers sail numbers for German shortboard windsurfers. Membership is required to appear in the rankings or obtain a GWA sail number.
Recognized by the German Sailing Association (DSV), the International Windsurfing Association (IWA), IFCA and the International Funboard Youth Class Association, the GWA represents Germany with voting rights at IWA class meetings. It also nominates German competitors for official international championships, including European and world events for youth and masters. As a partner to the DSV, the association works with sailing clubs to support national and international regattas. The California Windsurf Cup is the country’s leading national shortboard racing series. The GWA itself is not a regatta organizer; event delivery and promotion are handled with partner clubs and Choppy Water GmbH.
