About Great Eastern Railway Society
The Great Eastern Railway Society (GERS) is a membership organisation for enthusiasts, researchers and modellers interested in the Great Eastern Railway and the wider railway history of East Anglia and East London. Founded in 1973, the Society promotes interest in the GER, coordinates historical research and preserves knowledge and records. Its scope spans the GER from 1862 to 1922, its predecessor companies, its LNER and British Rail successors, and related regional railways through to today’s Network Rail and train operators.
Members and visitors can explore historical resources on locomotives, rolling stock, stations, railway routes, people and operations. The Society maintains a historical collection and provides access to research materials, photographs, drawings, films, bibliographies and information about archives. Its sales catalogue offers publications and other resources in digital PDF, CD/DVD and paper formats. Members receive quarterly issues of the Great Eastern Journal and Great Eastern News, and can take part in meetings, visits, an email group and an online forum.
