Geschichtsverein Göppingen

The History and Antiquities Association of Göppingen (Geschichts- und Altertumsverein Göppingen e.V.) is a local history association bringing together people interested in understanding the present through the region’s past. Founded on 18 March 1925, the association has a long tradition of researching and sharing the history of Göppingen and its surrounding district. Collections assembled by the association contributed to the creation of the Göppingen Museum in the Storchen, which marked its 50th anniversary under municipal stewardship in 1999.

Today, the association makes its research accessible through lectures, excursions and publications, alongside a varied programme of historical events and exhibitions. Its interests span the region’s history from its earliest beginnings to the present, including archaeology, art history, architecture, everyday life and religious aspects of historical development. The association also incorporates the work of the district archaeology service, based within the Göppingen district authority’s cultural office. Through its activities and membership, it offers residents and visitors opportunities to explore the people, places and developments that have shaped the region.
