About Geschichtsverein Harpstedt
The Historical Society for the Samtgemeinde Harpstedt is a nonprofit association founded in 2016 to research and share the history of the Harpstedt municipality area in Germany. Its work focuses on promoting local heritage and historical knowledge, preserving the region’s past, and encouraging greater awareness of history among residents, history enthusiasts, and younger generations. The society develops and supports historical research and publications, and shares its findings through written work, lectures, and excursions.
It also invites interested people to take part in projects, contribute their own knowledge, or learn more about local history. Current project topics include the Dünsen munitions facility, Harpstedt’s inns, schools across the Samtgemeinde, and the arrival of electricity in Harpstedt. Membership is open to everyone.
Members support the association’s work through their interest and participation, as well as through membership contributions. Based at the Samtgemeinde Harpstedt archive, the society provides a community platform for exploring, documenting, and safeguarding the area’s historical heritage
