Geschichtswerkstatt Würselen e.V. is a nonprofit local-history association dedicated to researching, preserving, and sharing the heritage of Würselen, including Bardenberg and Broichweiden, and its wider regional and Euregio context. The town’s recorded history reaches back to 870, while coal mining in the Wurm district shaped local life for centuries. The association helps make these stories accessible and relevant to residents and visitors.
Its work includes collecting and archiving historical documents, photographs, and other records, supporting Würselen’s cultural archive, and safeguarding local-history estates and libraries for future generations. To bring the past to life, the association offers lectures, publications, excursions, and educational walks, often working with schools, clubs, and other organizations. Its publications include the Schlaglichter series and Werkstattberichte, featuring stories and research about Würselen. The organization also hosts events such as readings and coordinates community walking groups. Through its archive, publications, and public activities, Geschichtswerkstatt Würselen encourages people to explore the town’s history, understand their local heritage, and take part in preserving it.
