GFHS

Gympie Family History Society Inc. is a volunteer-run organisation dedicated to collecting and protecting the history of Gympie and the wider Wide Bay region. Its work helps people explore local heritage and discover the stories of their families and communities. The society provides access to an expanding resource centre and library, with family history materials, newspaper articles, historic Gympie periodicals, rare local books, maps and indexed collections designed to make research easier.

Visitors can use popular genealogy programs at the society’s rooms during opening hours, supporting research into ancestors in Australia and overseas. The society’s website also features biographies of early residents and families from Gympie, Kilkivan, the Mary Valley and nearby areas, alongside articles on local history, businesses, events and notable stories. Research enquiries, membership and ancestor-submission options are available. The society welcomes people interested in discovering, preserving and sharing family and local history. Its rooms are located at the Old Ticket Office beneath the Rattler Railway Station in Gympie, and are open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at specified times.
