GFMD (Global Forum on Migration and Development) is a global consultative forum focused on the issues of migration and development. It was established in 2007 under the direction of the first GFMD Chair, Belgium, and has since become the largest informal, non-binding, voluntary, and government-led process. The forum brings together policy-makers, experts, and stakeholders from all regions and countries to discuss relevant policies, challenges, and opportunities related to the migration-development nexus.

Its objective is to foster practical and action-oriented outcomes at the national, bilateral, and international levels. GFMD facilitates the exchange of good practices and experiences, identifies gaps in information and institutional frameworks, and promotes partnerships and cooperation between countries and other stakeholders. Through its unique participative working method, GFMD ensures the inclusion of diverse voices and expertise, including academia, NGOs, trade unions, the private sector, migrants and diaspora representatives, local and regional governments, and youth.
