GfÖ

The Society for Ecology (GfÖ) is a scientific association serving ecologists in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It promotes ecological research, from fundamental studies to applied work, and supports the exchange of evidence-based knowledge across the scientific community. Its activities bring together researchers and others working across a broad range of ecological fields, including agricultural and soil ecology, conservation and restoration, ecosystem research, urban ecology, forest ecology, plant population biology and computational ecology.

GfÖ supports this community through specialist working groups, conferences, workshops and online seminars. Its annual meeting provides a forum for presenting research and connecting with colleagues, while joint events with other ecological societies extend opportunities for international exchange. The society also shares information and research through publications including Basic and Applied Ecology, its news bulletin and conference proceedings. Awards such as the Horst-Wiehe Prize, the GfÖ Prize, the honorary medal and the BAAE Best Student Paper Award recognize contributions to ecology and support emerging researchers.
