About GGDO Sierra Leone
GGDO Sierra Leone is the Government Gold and Diamond Office, established in 1985 as part of the government's initiative to regulate the foreign exchange regime in Sierra Leone. Today, it operates as the Gold and Diamond Division (GDD) under the National Revenue Authority (NRA). The primary functions of GDD are the valuation of gold and diamonds for export and the collection of export charges, taxes, and royalties on behalf of the government.
Following the UN Security Council Resolution 1306 in 2000, which focused on conflict diamonds, GDDO has gained significant importance. It is now responsible for certifying all legally exported diamonds from Sierra Leone. Although administratively falling under the National Revenue Authority, the technical functions of GDDO are coordinated by the Mines Division.
