GGMD

GGMD is a Dutch organisation dedicated to helping deaf and hard-of-hearing people, as well as people with other hearing-related limitations, live better with the practical, emotional and social effects of hearing loss. Its support also includes partners, relatives, friends and colleagues, recognising that communication challenges can affect an entire network. GGMD offers guidance on everyday functioning, mental health, communication, and support for children and families.

Its services include individual care and practical assistance, delivered through a process that begins with registration and a communication check, followed by an intake and care provision. The organisation also runs training courses and information sessions, where participants can share experiences, practise skills and explore coping strategies. Topics include living with hearing loss, tinnitus, hyperacusis and Ménière’s disease, emotional regulation, and building resilience.

Communication courses cover speechreading, Dutch with supporting signs, Dutch Sign Language, and communication for people with combined hearing and vision limitations. GGMD also provides information and referral guidance for healthcare professionals and municipalities, and resources for families and other close contacts
